About the Journal
The European Medical Specialist Review (EMSR) is an international, peer-reviewed journal published under the auspices of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). The journal provides a platform for the dissemination of high-quality scientific, clinical, and policy-related work relevant to medical specialists across Europe.
EMSR aims to support evidence-based practice, promote excellence in postgraduate medical training, and contribute to the development of healthcare systems and professional standards at both European and international levels.
Open Access Policy
The European Medical Specialist Review (EMSR) is an open access journal. All published articles are freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication.
Articles are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
Authors retain copyright of their work.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)
The European Medical Specialist Review (EMSR) is committed to maintaining an accessible and sustainable open-access publishing model.
During its initial establishment phase, EMSR has offered publication free of charge to authors. As the journal continues to grow and strengthen its editorial processes, indexing efforts, and international visibility, a modest Article Processing Charge (APC) will be introduced to support the long-term sustainability of the journal.
From 1 September 2026, an APC of €300 per accepted article will apply. The fee will contribute to the costs associated with manuscript handling, peer review management, editorial production, online publication, archiving, and the continued development of the journal.
Archiving Policy
EMSR is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published content. All published articles are permanently available on the journal website and are regularly backed up on secure servers maintained by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
Authors are permitted to deposit the final published version (Version of Record) of their articles in institutional or subject repositories immediately upon publication, provided that appropriate citation to the original publication in EMSR is included.
As the journal continues to develop, EMSR intends to implement participation in recognised digital preservation services to further ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of its scholarly content.
