Peer Review Process

The process

All submissions to EMSR undergo a structured, transparent, and independent peer review process in accordance with international standards, including the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Initial Screening

Upon submission, manuscripts are assessed by the Associate Editor to ensure compliance with the journal’s scope, formatting requirements, and basic quality standards. Submissions that do not meet these criteria may be rejected at this stage.

Assignement & Review

Eligible manuscripts are assigned to the handling reviewers. Each manuscript is evaluated by a minimum of two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers are selected from the UEMS network of European specialists, ensuring appropriate subject knowledge and independence from the authors.

Type of Peer Review

The journal operates a single-blind peer review process, whereby reviewers remain anonymous to authors.

Review Timeline

The peer review process is typically completed within 2–4 weeks, depending on reviewer availability.

Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the handling editor prepares a recommendation. The final editorial decision (acceptance, revision, or rejection) is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

Revisions

Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewer comments. Revised submissions may be returned to reviewers for further evaluation.

Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

All manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must declare any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves where appropriate.

EMSR is committed to a fair, unbiased, and timely peer review process that ensures the integrity and quality of published work.
